Well, we managed to survive yet another rock festival, the heat, the rain, the debauchery and all!!  We saw some amazing performances, discovered some new talent, and connected with a lot of great people!!   Including our buddies from Bleach Bangs

and Retrospect Records.  We took over 1200 pictures of almost all 30 bands at the festival.  We will try to post as many as we can in the gallery at shopretroactive.com.

One of the greatest surprises on Friday was the band Sweet, who sounded great and had great energy!  Faster Pussycat rounded out the lineup on the side stage  getting the crowd all riled up for the headliner, Twisted Sister, by breaking the "no cussing on stage" clause invoked by city officials. Saturday started out with hotter temps, and the ever-popular Steelheart

that brought the crowd out early despite the blistering heat.  The side stage ignited with the startling surprise of Motochrist and continued all the way thru LA Guns(Tracii Guns) while the main stage erupted  into a frenzy by the time the Scorpions performed.  After having to cancel some shows due to health issues, it seems the time off proved useful as Klaus and the band put on an outstanding visual display

The Scorpions

to compliment their tight sound!  But before the final act of Saturday night, a tribute was paid, with a collection of photographs displayed on the big screens, commemorating the extraordinary life of Ronnie James Dio.  It concluded with an emotional message from Dio's widow and details about the fund set up in his name.  Although the weather threatened to put a damper (pun fully intended) on Sundays festivities, everyone played as scheduled, even thru the rain!  Poor Lita Ford has now had to play twice in OK in the rain, though it cleared up part way thru her set, but not before taking out the keyboard!  Gilby Clarke was a last minute fill in, as Enuff Z'Nuff was unable to make it to the festival.  There was a surprise visitor,

Vince Neil Back Stage
Vince Neil

as Vince Neil was spotted backstage during Slaughter's set...Vince and Mark apparently share a drummer and Vince stopped by to show his support!  It was odd to see Dokken and Lynch Mob (George Lynch) play back to back, but nice to see that the guys in Ratt are still hanging on together!

Stephen Pearcy & Warren DeMartini of Ratt

True, it was an exhausting weekend, but worth every ache and every minute of sleep lost to partying like, and with many, rock stars!!

It has always been our custom to be the ones GIVING the presents on our birthday, and this year is no different.  Many of us were touched by the passing this year of, who many call the Godfather of Metal, Ronnie James Dio, and almost all of us have been, or will be touched by cancer in some way or another.  So we decided, in conjunction with our celebration, that we would hold a raffle to raise money to donate to the Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Cancer Fund.  Prizes will be awarded at the concert on August 9 and include original release Faster Pussycat   "Whipped" CDs autographed by Taime Downe, and LA Guns picture disc records autographed by Tracii Guns and much more!  Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased at any time at Retro Active up until 8pm the day of the show, and will also be available at the venue during the show.  ALL proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the fund.  Thank you in advance for your generosity!!   To make a donation directly and to find out more about the fund, please click the link below.
